    Coldstore Lighting



    Guys,

    I'm looking for lighting that is good for -25 deg C and 0 deg C application. Who are the better brands to recommend.

    Hi Kevin,

    24V bulbs are widely used, I know that Danfoss, makes speciat sterters for neon that will start at low temp.

    I use 240V bulbs, in a housing IP65.

    Go to your local electrical wholesaler dont buy arctic rated lights at £££££'s instead buy the plastic twin tube fittings with the diffuser/cover that clips into place, these ARE rated for -25oC and a fraction of the price.

    Any metal halide fixture with a low temperature ballast is good for cold storage rooms. The only challange is that they are slow starting even in heated warehouses. However, they run very economically.

    Weve been using metal haide in freezers for years and they work great, we recently added motion sensors to the lighting and seems to workking so far, so when no one is in the room the lights go out

    had lots of problems with tubes and control gear failing best to leave light on when in a low temp enviroment
    saves on cost of replacing tube/ballasts/starters and also cost of labour which is constantly rising thus offsetting cost of energy

    Hi ! I need to work on a cold storage for an ice cream factory whose requirement is -40 C. Can you recommend a source for procuring such lights and also throw some LIGHT on thetype of lights recomended.

    We use Either Philips or Zumtobel or Glamox fittings for temp upto -40 deg c.

    Absolutely no problems. We have used over 4500 fittings uptill now

    Hi , We have developed an IP65 L.E.D light fitting which is perfect for cold store and freezer lighting . No Maintenance for 50,000 hours and also each individual light fitting is fitted with a PIR control which allows the fitting to be switched off or dimmed to 10 percent at non occupancy . These fittings run at 35 watts fully on or 3 watts in the dimming mode. Also available as an emergency light with 3 hour battery back up .

    came across one install were they cut a square hole in roof panel,sealed it both sides with clear acrylic and sat the cheap mercury halide on top,easy to service and install

    It is very import in lighting to consider the type of coldstore you are working on.
    The light affect the color or aparence of the storaged goods.
    Also if the worker need read or observe the steekers on the pallets

    MH or flourecent are white color
    Sodio and incandecent are warm colors

    LED is the way to go but retrofit cost is an issue.
    Technology is still verry new,efficiency and cost will improve.In 2 years it will be a verry efficient prospect and a great green light for all.

    It would be good to see the numbers about energy savings and payback. How did you get 30-65% and 1-2 years?

    *10% higher ballast efficiency
    *20% lumen maintenance (400-> 320W)
    *additional savings through Dimming
    *additional savings through savings on cooling with less heath from HID lunits
    *additional savings due to less maintenance on relampingg

    Depending on the building structure and lighting requirements there are significant reductions possible.
