Mobile v's stationary
Hi All - Question for the ones in the know...
City & Guilds 5101 for Mobile air conditioning (cars and vans)...
...City & Guilds 2079 for stationary refrigeration...
So where do the likes of Thermoking, reefer, marine refrigeration and such fall? Am I missing something?
(first time thread starter so forgiveness prease)

Re: Mobile v's stationary
To work on refrigeration systems whether stationary or mobile you need a safe handling of refrigerant qual.
The 2079 (C&G) or the J11 (CITB) will be the only valid ones from July 2011.
The F gas law concerns stationary equipment only, not transtport (mobile).
It will all come eventually but not for a good few years, maybe as many as 5 or 10 years, but
F gas laws will eventualy include transport.

Re: Mobile v's stationary
So, if you have C&G 2079 but want to work on Automotive AC do you still need to sit C&G 5101-unit 1 as well?
Seems a little superfluous if you need both?

Re: Mobile v's stationary
No.
The only fridge quals in the UK that are mandatory
are the refrigerant handling ones and we all need them.
To work on static or transport, you do not need a qualification.
But companies and the industry recomend a level 2 NVQ as a
minimum standard to prove competance and ability. The 5101
like all other C&G quals are recomended but not mandatory.
A company might insist someone has the qual before they
hire them or promote them but that is a company policy
descion and not compulsory.
Also if they want you to have it they might pay for it???
All the best
