Rumour Mill,Daikin have got some new Distributors
its true there are now a number of new Daikin distributors (4 allegedly), not installers but proper distributors just like in the good old days.
I know of one for definite Freedom Air-conditioning in Southampton. I don't know who the rest are but will keep you posted if I find out.

Re: Rumour Mill,Daikin have got some new Distributors
I thought it was just Daikin and space that could supply in the UK, i would be very suprised if tehre are any more seen as how Daikin bought all of the distributors out, i know you can buy through Climate but i think they get the kit straight off Daikin UK.
Daikin run heat pump courses through out the country at all of there offices, where do you live? Give them a beel and they will tell you the closest place.

Re: Rumour Mill,Daikin have got some new Distributors
Slightly disingenuous here Graham as they share Spicer and Taylor as Directors for both..
Either way it's obvious DUK are in serious sales trouble as they are under cutting everybody and going in direct (behind Contractors backs) offering to sell direct at -20% Little s.h.i.t.s that they are..
Be careful of DUK - not to be trusted as far as you could throw them!

Wonder if the free advertiser (cheap-skate) would like to pay RE to advertise? Surely that would be a more kosher solution?

Re: Rumour Mill,Daikin have got some new Distributors
I spoke to aguy I know at Daikin, and the reason these companies will be selling Daikin equipment is so companies that Daikin would not normally sell to as they dont meet their criteria can now buy the equipment, This way Daikin shift the kit, but the risk of non payment is not there as Daikin will get the money for the kit regardless if the wholesaler doesnt.

Re: Rumour Mill,Daikin have got some new Distributors
Sounds like Daikin staff embarrassed that distys have been brought in trying to put a spin on the situation and being completely factually incorrect in the process.
Any disty risk is shared with the manufacturer by default , contractor goes bust, disty goes bust, manufacturer still loses !!

Re: Rumour Mill,Daikin have got some new Distributors
I think it is more a case that Daikin just want the big orders coming to them directly and all the non-D1'ers, the smallish orders, can go to/via the distributors.
If I was in the admin departments of daikinUK (sales and accounts eg), I'd be looking for a job as DUK would seem to be slimming down their overheads if they are getting distributors to distribute their kit.

Re: Rumour Mill,Daikin have got some new Distributors
Mind you, there must be something going on. I received a survey today, all aimed at finding out what might be the reason for not buying more of the Daikin kit than we do (or did this year).
A company would normally engage in that kind of thing when their sales are in trouble, and they have to find out why buyers are passing them by. ie they are doing something wrong and are trying to find out what it is so they can correct it. Well, I assume they would want to correct it.
They could start with PRICES and becoming more user friendly to the smaller installer.Last edited by Makeit go Right; 31-10-2010 at 10:51 AM.

Re: Rumour Mill,Daikin have got some new Distributors
These are all fair points. I now have an account with Daikin, although did find it hard to get, and have managed to build up a good relationship with my salesman and some of the technical team. Sales wise, there are too many processes etc which can make things difficuilt, but the techical guys very good. I can see why some firms get pissed off with them, but I have also found other manufacturers the same. Mitsubishi use distributors for the same reason as Daikin now will. My concern, if I was buying of one of Daikins distributors, is who do I go to for back up, them or Daikin. Will the spares be as readily available via the distributor. Its not just about selling the kit, the back up once its in needs to be there if needed

Re: Rumour Mill,Daikin have got some new Distributors
I miss Cooling Services, if there's anyone left at Daikin UK that remembers them I bet they miss them twice as much as I do. That level of expertise and support is a thing of the past in the "distribution chain"

Re: Rumour Mill,Daikin have got some new Distributors
The last time I had a daikin sale rep in he was a new guy and came from university and new nothing about air conditioning, to his own admittance.
Daikin distribute through places like climate for all the reasons stated, didn't they introduce an economy wall mount range a while ago to compete with cheaper brands??
MMmmmmm.....

Re: Rumour Mill,Daikin have got some new Distributors
I always used Pillinger Air, always willing to come to site, 90% of the time for free, and always went the extra mile. Now its a corporation, and it behaves like it. I still find the tech guys helpful in the London office though.

Re: Rumour Mill,Daikin have got some new Distributors
After reading the article/posts right the way through, can I seriously believe our industry cannot understand the reason why Daikin Uk have chosen this route?
Do you tar that same condescending brush across the broad spectrum of manufacturers who to name but one...dare I.....dare I, ok I will, Mitsi who has about as many routes to Market as B&Q and fingers in the pies through 'spurious' trade routes, I guess some of these Mitsi guys posting have forgotten that, AND SO THEY SHOULD as its there right to get as much of their good product out there!(less of course the direct sales to end users who dont hold f-gas, nor the original agreement with a certain large m&e that had an f-gas certificate printed out of the cleaner ladies epson printer)
You want to talk about spurious trade routes......take a little look deeper into that route, and a for the discounts that 'alledgedly' is being offered, take advantage of it......its premium kit, and on that note, remember going back 3-4 year ago, Mitsi took on Daikin and offered silly prices and took on Daikin head on and gave -10-10-10-5 to win a big project to every tom, d1ck and harry and made everyone believe it was 'just for you!', well what a crock of crap that was and still is going on!
Daikin appear to be fighting back and playing them at their own game - are Mitsi rattled....from what I hear, this appears to be the case and Mitsi so im told becoming arrogant, complacent about their own cutomers mentioning loyalty to be a priority of them purchasing kit are trying to get customers to buy specified work at less than than their std terms - remind you of anyone two or three years ago......
Now i come to my biggest rant - Graham Hendra....Graham Graham Graham, to start a post off with the manner in which, as you well know how the industry reacts to scant information like this and your intentions assumed would attract such a backlash. You must have been fully aware of the deal with Freedom AC and Daikin as Freedom Heat pumps are run by the same directors, surely this company now sees that possibly your even willing to start a post on a forum (Nameless this time I add) calling into question there own decision.
To me Freedom having a good reputation and together with a premium brand - cant be a bad thing.
Lastly as for advertsing - didnt you do the same thing with Space when you where there, and if im not mistaken, didnt you do it at LG, whats your next advert mate and for which company?
CREDABILITY ONCE AGAIN SHOT - PRICELESS
GROSS MISCONDUCT - PRICELESS
CRAWLING BACK INTO A BOX AGAIN - PRICELESS
....for everything else there's mastercard!

Re: Rumour Mill,Daikin have got some new Distributors
freedom hp = hendrag ie. G.Hendra?
Oh I see mrghendra email address for the freedom HP account.
Still, no fan of the well mits do this, mits do that so daikin are fine to do it too argument.
Hope Mr Hendra does more that spruik freedom HP though here, like general technical help.
To be honest, I often get better deals at big box whitegoods retailers than any wholesalers, so don't really care what they do as manufacturers (here or over there).
The only brands I can get wholesale are panasonic and mitsubishi heavy industry anyway. My retailer is closer and offers the pretty much the same price (obviously stock level varies for retail and makes the difference). But no Daikin for me, and it's not worth it anyway.
Anyway, installers need to know the street price of the units, no point quoting a job taking into account your wholesale price, then losing out because the customer walked into a retailer and found that they are cheaper then your cost price.Last edited by paul_h; 29-11-2010 at 03:12 PM.
