shell and tube heat exchanger design

    Hi,

Is there a rule of thumb in designing a shell and tube condenser? if non how do you have any links to provide so i can study the design. Because my boss only taught me his rule of thumb with really explaining how he do it. And when i select the design i just based it on the manufacturer catalog.

    thank you

    lynark

Well, you need to know surface, LDTM, specific heats of fluids, bla bla bla... are you a manufacturer of s&t condensers?

    Hi NNN,

More of a local fabricator. We fabricate our own shell and tube condenser for the refrigeration system. So I want to know how they compute it, because right they are using a standard selection. I mean for example 89TR capacity, they will use 6 pass of 26" x 18' because of the sqft surface area. I don't know if its correct or what are the computation behind it.

    One hell of a condenser!
You could use coolpack and calculate the heat transfer of each pipe individually.
