multi-user cooling system on a ship
Hi,
We build equipment for analysing seabed samples on board ships. We have a variety of demands for "coolth" including:
Seawater ice
Seawater at any temperature between 1-10°C
Cold air for a reefer-type container at any temperature between 1-10°C
Small capacity freezer units at @ -20°C
Airconditioning units for 20' containerised laboratories
We have started looking at running our units on ships with zoned areas that require HVAC specs including Explosion Proof motors etc. Such systems are VERY expensive so we were wondering about running a special unit (maybe in a 10' container) with several compressors and evap units and piping either glycol mixes or simply cold water to sites around the ship where "coolth" is needed. This way we cut down on the need for EX-rated fan units, and if we design it well will have redundancy in the system to protect against failures.
Is it sensible/possible to view "coolth" in the same way as say electricity and have a unit into which you could plug a variety of users for a variety of uses/services? Reliability is extremely important to us so we would want dual systems etc.
