    fridgemaster fridge freezer problem

My dad has a fridgemaster fridge freezer which stopped working a week or so ago.
I replace the stat but still not working. The motor gets warm but no clicking sounds from the start relay.
Inside the stat 'housing' next to the stat is a rectangular capacitor which has connections to the lamp.
Not sure if it is also related to the stat as wiring colours are different.
The stats wiring is brown white, grey and a yellow wire to the stat casing(earth).Which wires do i use to bypass the stat to test the compressor.
Previous ones i have done used a red and black one from the stat.
I have put photos of the stat, wiring and capacitor in my album on this site.
    Any help much appreciated
    Alan

Was the original stat faulty? or are you just throwing parts at it in the hope you will get lucky?

What test meters do you have? Ideally you will need a good multi meter and a clamp amp meter.

If the compressor is getting hot and not running, chances are is broked. If you had some test meters you would be able to find out for sure, or you could just call out an engineer!
