Zanussi ZER240 - Light on, but that's it?

I have a Zanussi ZER240 - the light comes on but nothing else.
It first stopped a week back - but would start if left off for a while or by jiggling the thermostat setting. Then it stopped working by this method.
Then left off - and stopped and worked for 12-16 hours on highest/coldest setting - but then stopped two days back and nothing.

Any suggestions?

My thoughts are its either the thermostat or compressor (it was noisy for a while before it untimely death) - I'm doing the obvious cleaning all areas of fridge and connections.

Hi Spartacus, Are you in Newcastle Australia?.. anyway, problem is most likely the thermostat however, the noisy compressor will one way or the other cause grief. how old is the fridge?
