HOTPOINT MISTRAL ff72s NO POWER
Hi All
My Hotpoint FF72S fridge/freezer has died. All was going well no problems at all, until I got up one morning and the fringe was off, no light, no digital display or fan, no sounds of relays clicking, nothing. I checked the plug outlet and the fuse (all ok), then came on here and read up on some problems.
I then cleaned out the front bottom bit of dust(coil?) and the rear, and left it off for two days.
Tonight I switched it on, still nothing, and checked with a multimeter that the electric powercord wasn't the cause. Sadly it wasn't that, power is going up to the black block thingy (irish technical term) on the side of the compressor bit.
If anyone could give me some pointers as what to check next to save paying for an engineer to come out. I'd appreciate any help at all.
Thanks
charlie

Re: HOTPOINT MISTRAL ff72s NO POWER
try the thermostat.. open the t-stat compartment and with a small screwdriver give the little thingy one one end a little push to see if the compressor starts if it does your prob. is the t-stat. Good luck!

Well doesn't seem to be that. Help keep this updated while I start replacing parts. Thanks again Tony

Re: HOTPOINT MISTRAL ff72s NO POWER
If power is going to "the black box thingy" then the thermostat is ok.
Likely that the relay "black box thingy" is at fault or the compressor.
Does the motor try to start, does it get hot,if it does either it probably is the relay,if not likely the motor.

Re: HOTPOINT MISTRAL ff72s NO POWER
Thanks spimps for the advice. The power is going going straight into the relay from the power cord and I've measured power coming from it going up the rear of the freezer and inside the freezer where the 2 Thermostats (Green&Yellow) are connected to a yellow plug/switch. Again nothing to the pcb board or light. The relay doesn't make a sound or the compressor. I'll check this out tonight and post back.
Thanks again

Re: HOTPOINT MISTRAL ff72s NO POWER
Happy days, seems to be the "Live" thermal fuse. Done a continuity test on the 2 fuses, live failed, then rigged up a short and I've got an E3 error followed by an E8. This is probably due to me messin with the thermistors. No compressor working but I think once I sort out the errors with new parts it should be all good. Inside light and pcb digital display are working.
E1 - Freezer thermistor open circuit.
E2 - Freezer thermistor short circuit.
E3 - Fridge thermistor open circuit.
E4 - Fridge thermistor short circuit.
E7 - Evaporator thermistor open circuit.
E8 - Evaporator thermistor short circuit.
E9 - Temperature set switch open circuit
EA - No feedback from Baffle
EB - Fridge Baffle motor operating continuously
EE - Defrost time out
Thanks to everyone on this site, especially Tony and spimps for the pointers.
Fingers crossed until the parts get fitted.
