    Expantion valve design

I want to design a a home made cold storage, where i am using R22 for dropping -5degree temparature. Total cooling load is 225kw.I using 1 inch dia cupper tube and reciprocating compressor(suction stroke 20kg supply stroke 1kg).Can any body tell if i use capillary expantion, what should be the mimimum dia and length of the cupper tube(Both part of the capplarity will be connected to 1 inch cupper tube to complete the refrigeration cycle)and how to determine the amount of the refrigeration for this system

    Re: Expantion valve design

    Hi
has this already been installed or something you are thinking about?
As r22 is being phased out.....
You will be better with a adjustable expansion valve (tev)
as capillary valve design is very specific and if wrong will cause issues that will be easily sorted with a adjustable valve ie you can adjust it (open or close) to meter liquid to evap coil

I tried using Dancap to calculate your system but as your load is excessive for a capillary system it won't do it.

Dancap max is 34000 btu/h you are looking for 768245 btu/h.

Capillary is not the way to go for that duty.
