    Working with R406A

    Hi there,

    Has anyone worked with R406A?

Can it really be used as R12 replacement?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers

We use R406a as a drop in for R12 in small systems. We used to use R409a but have found R406a better and not as noisy.

    Re: Working with R406A

works well as a dropin for open drive compressors (HGC, York F210< Sanden SD508 etc) seems to prefer 5GS oil for this, able to adapt reasonably well to quickly changing parameters ( work in marine so think auckland> tahiti and back) have had one instance where needed to remove charge, shake it and remix in recovery cylinder and reuse same charge so fractionation is a consideration, reacts better to temp control via thermostat as opposed to pressure switch, pays to bulk charge via highside prior to startup (after leak test naturally)marginally higher discharge to R12 in the applications that I use it for, does contain butane though it is only 5% and have had no flammability issues with this, also contains R22 so you can kiss it goodbye pretty soon
