Help Required for Selecting Thermal Expansion Valve.
Dear Friends
I require help for selecting a thermal Expansion Valve for Copeland Copelamatic Semi Hermetic Compressor Model No: LAHA- 032E -TAD-220. Its for a -20 deg cold storage ,the size of the cold storage is 10 feet length X 8 feet width X 8 feet Height.
I require a compatible Thermal Expansion Valve and the refrigerant is R -22.
Can any one suggest me the compatible Thermal Expansion Valve.
Thanks.

Re: Help Required for Selecting Thermal Expansion Valve.
That compressor is for R404A and R507 refrigerants.

Re: Help Required for Selecting Thermal Expansion Valve.
Dear Sir
Following parameters are available with us.
ReFrigerant : R 22
Evaporating Temp = -26C
Condensing Temp = + 50 - 55 deg. C
Sub-cooling Temp = Not Known
System Capacity @ above conditions : Not exactly known. Its a -20 deg c cold storage and it has got Semihermatic Copeland Copelamatic Compressor Model No. LAHA - 032E - TAD - 220. The system is almost 12-14 years old.
Please help us to find a compatible thermal expansion valve.

Re: Help Required for Selecting Thermal Expansion Valve.
Do you have old expansion valve? What is his make and model number?
What is evaporator make and model number?
At this conditions:
Te=-26°C
Tc=50°C
subcooling 6K
evaporator superheat 4K
total superheat 20K
your compressor have about 3,4 kW cooling capacity with R22 refrigerant.
Your expansion valve could be Danfoss TEX 2 with orifice 02 or 03 which depend on size of evaporator.
Buy both orifice and try smaller one at first.
Selection of TXV should be done according to evaporator capacity.Last edited by nike123; 22-05-2010 at 08:31 AM.

Re: Help Required for Selecting Thermal Expansion Valve.
NIKE is correct that the LAHA-032E-TAD compressor is not rated for low temp R22.
But the LAHA-031A-TAD (different motor) is rated for low temp R-22.
In the past when R502 was going away many manufacturers (ie: Hussmann) tested compressors and used them outside Copelands ratings. I suspect this is the case being that R22 was the replacement choice at the time.
With that said, my official SWAG calculation of the LAHA-032E-TAD capacity using R22 would be:
12,260 btuh @ -15F (-26C) SST
90F (32C) ambient
460-3-50 Hertz
I suggest you use a 1.5 nominal ton balance port TEVLast edited by powell; 22-05-2010 at 03:15 PM.

Re: Help Required for Selecting Thermal Expansion Valve.
Has the original valve failed ? Has this system allways run on r22 , What is loading on room is it not possible to run a refrigerant suited to the compressor
Running this compressor on r22 at the suggested condensing with no additional subcooling to compressor you will be running with excessive discharge pressures , this will break down the oil over a period off time forming carbon on the discharge valves and other detrimental effects in the long term.
Compressors have operation parameters for good reason.

Sorry above should read excessive discharge tempreatures not pressures.

Re: Help Required for Selecting Thermal Expansion Valve.
Now I will be using a new Copeland Copelamatic Semi Hermetic Compressor , Model No : LA40-030E . with R 404a refrigerant , The product catalog of Copeland Says at condenser temp: +55 Deg C ant Evaporating Temp: - 20 Deg C , the compressor has cooling capacity of 3.45 Kw.
Can any one help to find a suitable TXV Preferably Danfoss.
