    walk in freezer compressor

I have a walkin freezer and when the compressor goes into defrost, it doesn't turn back on automatically when defrost cycle in finished.
we are having to push a button to restart it. This ssems to only happen when it is warm outside, being in phoenix this is approx 6 months a year, and had no problem during the winter

Which button do you have to press to restart it? Describe the unit.

it is a Russell 4 ton compressor,,up top near the fan, there is a small rectangle box with a button to restart, after the defrost cylce has ended, approx 30 min,, or so,,,we find out that after about 1 hour compressor hasnt restarted or kicked back, then we are having to climb on ladder and push button, then the fan and compressor goes back on,,,

I'm not familiar with a reset button but rather a faulty contactor. Sounds like your pulling to many amps which is tripping the reset when the compressor tries to kick back on.

Check your pressures in the system. Maybe high head pressure do to the outside heat?

Check your defrost timer for cycle time and try to be there the next time it goes into defrost. Then test what circuit is open or tripped and follow back to find the cause. Have gauges on system to see if high pressure ramps enough to trip safety. Also connect clamp-on amp probe to check start-up demand. Finally...don't do any service before you test it. Use it as a learning experience. If you fix what you don't know is the problem, you will never know what happened. That way you have a jump on the next call. Good luck.
Don't leave it like you found it.....Leave it like it should be !!!

As a rule you should know what fault you are rectifying before you press any reset device.
