I'm new here but was wondering if anyone has some input on the following...

19XR, 134A, frame 2, vintage 2000

Just finished a leak search / repair and I found what I believe to be the demister element shreaded and stuck in the internal oil filter.

The machine has been leaking refrigerant for two years and we finally fixed it this year. On average it would be down 150 to 200 lbs before we got the call "total charge is 570 lbs".

Does anyone know if there could be an underlying cause for this failure? Or is it just something that happens. Also since I don't think they will want to have the tear down done this late are there any serious problems that could arise running the machine with the bad demister?

There are other issues with this machine we found on start up but I may have to start another thread due to the complexity
