Re: hot water outlet position in water tank?
Not too much info about tis on web. Try thermosyphon effect, basicly hot water rises in the centre and to the top (when colder outside). Also check out paper capacitor for design geometrics, then maxima/minaima calculus give about 1 x dia to 2 height (for a cylender). Now that's given all the secrets away - good luck and let us know how you go.

Re: hot water outlet position in water tank?
If this is a HWHP, with integrated storage tank, then the condenser coils are mounted on the outside of the tank. The hottest temperatures are at the top of the coil, closest to compressor discharge i.e. at the top of the tank.
