    Liquid Spillover in Surge Vessel - Potential incorrect Suction Piping



    I am a new regsitered user and need some urgent assistance.

    We have installed a 240 ton ice plant consisting of 4 nos. 60 ton ice makers with 4 nos. dual pressure regulating valves (Parker A4WD - 5") installed and they are running on a single screw compressor (Mycom).

    THe problem that we are facing is that we get ammonia liquid spillover and builtup in the common surge vessel after 6-8 hours of continuos operations. I am suspecting that the suction piping is incorrect. THe client has the 4 nos. suction lines connected together and has "T" from the bottom of the 8" header connected to the surge vessel. In additon, the "T" connection is very near 2 ice makers and not in the center. I have recommended that he attched the suction line to the top of the 8" common header and ensure that the rise is higher than the indivdual ice maker surge vessel and that the connection should be from the center so that there is even suction from all 4 icemakers.

    Does the common surge vessel have a heat load from something like , a coil with high pressure liquid line going through it ?
    You basically need a heat source to boil off excess refrigerant in your common surge vessel .

    What type of ice machines are they ?

    How is the harvest of each machine carried out ?
