    Wireless temperature monitoring and logging

    Hi,

I work in the electronic refrigeration controller industry and am currently looking into the market of wireless temperature monitoring and logging systems. Several vendors offer such systems but I wonder how installers and users actually perceive the wireless systems, so please respond if you have any experience or knowhow about wireless:

    - Why was a wireless system chosen over a wired system?
    - What benefits did you obtain from the system?
    - What problems did you encounter?
    - Where in the food flow / food lifecycle does wireless offer special advantages for you - preparation, cold storage of unprepared food, hot storage of finished food, other?

Please don't state manufacturer brands unless you specifically want to.

Thanks in advance for your kind help
    Svend

Maybe my first question should be:
Has anyone ever used or seen a wireless system in a supermarket?

Re: Wireless temperature monitoring and logging

Seen wireless probes in refitted Waitrose stores.
They go in the integrals because those controls aren't matched to the main cases controller network.

Main cases use Next controllers and the integrals (Dixell controller in the 2 I've looked at) have Next wireless probes - a stapler sized magnetic backed unit stuck at the back of the shelves. It sends a signal to a reciever somewhere and this is displayed on the front end.

The only problems I've seen with them are readings of 3000*C. Apparently caused by probe or signal transmission error (hardly leaves much else!). We have to get Next in to sort it out though because the probes are sealed, to get a new one requires some type of programming which Next have to do but more importantly the stores are under warranty due to the recent refit. Otherwise I'd prise one of those mo-fo's apart and have a fiddle!
Health and safety first..........unless I'm in a hurry.

Thanks for your kind replies. Seems that wireless is not *that* wide used - at least not yet.

Do transport now have a wireless/remote system. with an interface to temperature recorder and mobile phone network that allows the office to know, fridge details on the move. I believe it also auto downloads as the unit enters the depot.
