Question about chillers for ice skating area

Hello Everybody,

I doing a little research, maybe you can help me,
I want to know how much will cost me a chiller for Olympic ice skating area, where i can find model, that suitable for my country ( middle east, 9 month of sun, in summer +35 ), maybe somewhere i can find forum with used chillers, that you can recommend, where i should be start looking ?

Did you make a proper heat calculation?
How big is the rink? Hockey size or figure skating? How many seatings on the stands? How high is the dome?
Insulation of the skate rink is essential in summertime.

Freezing water is easy, keeping it frozen is another story.

1) You don't. You need a properly trained professional to do it for you. It will help you avoid underestimating or overestimating the cooling capacity, and in the end will help you saving money.

4) Again, a proper civil engineering company will design the structure for you. They will make sure to abide to all national regulations in terms of safety for static and dinamic stresses, like seismic and similar.
5) Avoid gaining heat from the outside in summer time. Usually polyurethane is used, but it all depends on how the dome is designed and built.

We do ice skating rinks in Australia. Allow 350watts/ square metre of ice surface. You will have sufficient capacity.

350W/M2 may be a little low for the middle east. The last one I did in Dubai uses over 400W/M2. If it's a shopping mall rink, the load is even higher.

Using rules-of-thumb will do as a check or a quick budget if you know the basis of the rule. But you really need to hire a consultant that has designed ice rinks in the past. For this you really can not depend on a rink equipment manufacturer.

Hi

We have a rink here in Doha with 1 TRANE RTAC 250 on it 3 screw compressors on 2 systems. working -10 deg C glycol leaving control temp.
Problem only 1 chiller and no standby capabilities. Units been running 3 years and comps have accumulated over 72000hours plus between them.
1 compressor fails and we have a swimming pool. its a good unit though
