Horse power rating
?Horsepower? is an Imperial unit that seems to have crept into the refrigeration and Air Conditioning industry as a nominal measure of power.
When applied to the mechanical / refrigeration capacity of compressors via the theoretical electrical input of the motor it doesn?t tell you anything about the duty you are getting.
The Japanese and Korean spilt system purveyors are very keen on describing their units in horsepower. If you compare a range of manufacturer?s systems at a single nominal HP rating, the actual capacities in kW will vary considerably.
Please have a look at the attached link from AREMA in Australia.

Capacity is best measured in kW (or Btu/hr, if you prefer) at a known or predicted condition.
