samsung american style fridge/freezer

i dont normally get involved with domestic stuff,but a friend of mine has asked me to look at this appliance,its on 600a,and appears to have lost its charge,another colleage tells me samsung are changing them[replacing]as there is a design fault with the evaporator,this machine is 3yrs old ,can anybody shed any light on this info?
