How To Determine Optimum TDs for different systems

    Hi guys,

I'm a new guy in refrigeration design. Can you help me in determining the optimum LMTDs in three or four system heat transfer such as:

    1. Product - Air - Refrigerant
    2. Product - Air - Secondary Coolant - Refrigerant
    3. Product - Secondary Coolant - Refrigerant

I would really appreciate your help.

    Thanks,

    Fred Mataro

    Fred,
I think you've put the cart before the horse. Firstly, you need to know your optimum product storage conditions, condition of entering air room temperature etc. If you are using standard manufactured I.D. evaporators. There is no set delta T that will give you the same performance from different coil manufacturers as this is dependant on the coil design. E.G.coil bypass factor, air quantity/velocity, surface area, number of rows, coil sensible heat ratio.etc. I would suggest that you looked at a coil program selector such as the one from Guntner which gives excellent info. Maybe someone can suggest another manufacturers program that gives the same depth of information as the Guntner program.
