    Whirlpool k40 ice maker

Had a look at one today for not making ice and found the evap frozen solid over the water feed pipe, and the heater grid broken and another lump of ice sat on the grid holding up the switch.
Managed to twist the ends of the heater wires together to get it working again

Anyway, when i go back with the new grid i'd like to know what the normal sequence these things go through when making ice, should it wait till the last lot has dropped into the bin till it starts again etc etc

    Cheers Jon

when the slab has dropped onto the cutter grid the refrigeration cycle should start. there will be an ice thickness switch which initiated the hot gas defrost when the desired thickness is reached. check that this is not faulty

    Hi Jon

A handy tip is to turn the ice thickness stat until it clicks, think it maybe anti-clockwise but not sure, this initiates the defrost cycle & opens the water valve to fill the tank. If you do this on start up until water flows out of the drain at the back before ice making, it'll make sure the water tank is full.
It should go through this automatically on every defrost cycle in order to stop a build-up of minerals in the water tank & rank tasting ice..

If you try this link it's got some documentation-

I found them a bit of an odd-ball electrically, but once you've got your head round them, they're simple enough. Elec diagram should be on inside of the lid..
