    Daikin split compressor noise

What sound is the compressor suppose to make when it is operating?

Is it a high pitched whine sound? like "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"

It's a few days old, Daikin FTXS80H H series 8kw. It uses R410A. Having another listen it makes a sssssssssssss hissing sound I can hear from 3 floors down where I check my mail. After about 5 hours the sound stops, which I take it means it has cooled the lounge room down to the set point temperature.

Hi CTN, im guessing its quit warm were you are at the moment?
Sounds normal to me my friend.
If it is hot there, then leave it on over night at a reduced temp so it doesnt have to work so hard.

    regards

At my parent's place, there's 2 splits and they are no where near as loud, you have to listen closely to hear it.

The temp's here are ok, last night was about 27deg when I tested it.

Try turning off (power )to outdoor unt and rotate fan by hand to see if catching on something. Pls turn off power first.
Best thing i think you can do is ask contractor back to investigate. If its a new system should be under warranty, apart from labour!

I had a look at an ftxs71 inverter condensing unit the other day, with a sound similar to what you described, turned out to be coming from the main pcb - still works ok just noisy. Apparentley has been noisy for months.

Is the sound very loud that you can hear it 15m away?

    Re: Daikin split compressor noise

The whistling sound could well be the PWM switching of the inverters or the mains harmonic filters. Usually this noise level is low and only audible if near the unit. If it is loud then (WITH due respect and care of the DC voltages present) try to find which part is the impertinent noise maker: the compressor, the inductor, or parts of the filters... Then decide what to do! High frequency noise can usually be dampened more easily than low frequencies. Try a used compressor jacket or similar with due care to not touch components, or allow condensation drips to occur on PCBs (a circuit killer).

Turns out it was the fan, had it replaced and the noise is gone.
