    Well, obviously, the portions that have ice covering them are below 32 degrees F.

    Whether or not that is a problem would require mor information.

    The one that is a bit concerning to me is the photo of an icy line from what appears to be an oil separator. That, I think, is a problem.

    Otherwise, what is the evpa temp and superheat and we can give a bit more informed answer.

    If the oil return pipe is covered with ice, it means that the compressor is pumping liquid!!!!

    Something is very wrong there, it could be defrosting with LSV open.

    Start collecting details: Refrigerant? Working temp? Suction and discharge pressure? What parts are along the pipes and do function properly?

    Hi Shaman

    Looks like it is getting liquid refrigerant returning to the compressor, needs suction pressure and temperature to work out superheat to be sure, i expect the discharge pipe is quite cool to the tough as well, it looks quite bad in the pictures , maybe low load on the evaporator, faulty expansion device, solenoid, wrong refrigerant etc etc

    I'm wondering, if it is pumping liquid, that this is then making its way to the oil seperator and causing the float to open as the level rises and work as expansion device, hence the frost on the pipe from the bottom of the seperator.

    Running like this will wash oil from the bores and bearings and shorten the life of the compressor.

    The R404A Compressor -

    => Discharge Pressure is 220 psi
    => Suction Pressure is 15 psi
    => Working Temp is -30*C

    and your superheat, sub-cooling etc readings are ?

    I think something is wrong in the system. if the temperature of evaprator is too low,you can deforst first .maybe any liquid pipe valve reture to the compresor is leaking.
