Why are SABROE prices so expensive?

I contacted SABROE regarding some GRAM spares and the prices and lead time they came back with were crazy!

Does anyone know where I can get cheap GRAM spares? Genuine please.

    Thanks
    Bob

Re: Why are SABROE prices so expensive?

The GRAM "belongs" to SABROE. GRAM compressors don't exist at many years...so maybe they are so expensive. GENUINE PARTS and good price but not in SABROE maybe you can't get it. Let me know if you can.

Because they are owned by Johnson Controls Inc., and they charge like a wounded bull.

Re: Why are SABROE prices so expensive?

    Hi MassiveBoost.
    Magoo is correct.
Gram are owned by Johson Control née-York, née- Sabroe.
    AND THEIR SPARES ARE EXPENSIVE.

However from my experience Sabroe spares can last Decades not just Years.
Personally I have "overhauled" many that are in their twenties.
With the occasional 1 or 2 that are in their Thirties!
When you divide the cost by the number of reasonable running Hours you can expect.
Then their price seems a little more reasonable.
Where Gram are concerned I cannot tell you the exact date that their production was shut down.
But I know it was a long time ago.
Which is always an influence upon price irrespective of Manufacturer!

    Back to your dilemma!
    Try this link..
    http://www.ralcoeuropa.eu/catalogo/e_reca.php
Remember that these are not OEM spares..
    The choice is yours!

Apparently there is someone in UK who gets discount from SABROE but I dont know who it is!

    Any ideas?

In the past we found that it was cheaper to purchase genuine parts through marine supply companies, such as Unitor (I hope I have spelt it right)

Re: Why are SABROE prices so expensive?

Johnson Controls and there parts selling price system really peeezies me off. They want want want, to cover the corporate recovery percentages for all the organization ticket clipping.
as an example, I could buy an SMC internal oil filter for average 140 dollars, now it is all glossed up as a kit, for 700 dollars. how can I sell that to a client and be honest. I have found a motor industry filter the same specs, for 40 dollars. The specs are the same , physically looks the same.
And does the job and no breakdown in performance. ( not telling ya what ever ), OK it is a hydraulic filter.

Hey mate. I actually work for johnson controls and spend time in the sabroe factory Birmingham and Denmark. I am also on the sabroe training academy . Just so you know the prices are that expensive as all warranty is void if any other parts are used. To the question about getting cheap parts you cant, i wouldn't even waste your time trying.

HI Liam, thanks for the info. I sourced a lot of GENUINE spares cheap in the end anyway all in original boxes/packaging. So I'm happy.

    Hi, all

thanks Grizzly and Josef, very nice links ... but spares there are for piston comp only ...

what about spares for screws .... seems, available genuine parts only, with whatever price

    Probably, I'm asking too much

I doubt jci would give warranty on say recip parts .

It would be more effort than it is worth

Other recip parts are definately available , also with a warranty to hard to pursue .

Maybe they are the only parts not made in China .

    Hi Liamrile85.
pat yourself on the back for flying the corporate flag. Well down. But does not wash with me, parts are overpriced for what the are, try a warranty claim would pale a Cia enquiry by comparison.
Johnson get them made in China branded genuine factory parts, just like everyone else.

Re: Why are SABROE prices so expensive?

    OVERPRICED?
What is the share capital of Johnson Control, what is the return on investment PA,
If more than 20% PA, then possibly a bit overpriced, if less, then is underpriced.
If you think they are over priced, make them your selves.
Do you ring Johnson for quote, do you always buy, if not who pays for the employee at the other end, the next guy who orders.
Do you buy their products, then they are not over priced.

Now now children calm down. But i must take this opportunity to point out an example of overpriced goods.

For example i have some Cylinder Liners HC X075 part no: 77-580-1075. So I asked Sabroe for a price on these out of interest.Approx £1400 each!

Same goes for Cylinder Valves Kits, about the same price and they are only made up of Rings that Hoerbiger make for Sabroe!

    Now that is shocking people.

    Mad Fridge,
    you have gone very quite.
A cylinder liner for 1400 pounds is megar bucks in NZ pasos.
Generally a complete compressor re-build done properly [ recip ] is more expensive than a new replacement, sad to say.

Gone blind in both ears, so will shout so you can feel me.
I AGREE IT DOES COST MORE TO REPAIR, THAN TO BUY NEW (JUST ABOUT EVERTHING).
AS A SMALL BUSINESS, I UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COST AND PROFIT, THE REAL WORLD IS ABOUT RETURN ON INVESTMENT, MOST OF US HAVE SOME SORT OF PENSION SCHEME, THESE SCHEMES INVEST IN THESE LARGE COMPANIES, SO WE CAN GET A GOOD PENSION, TO GET THESE BENIFITS, THESE COMPANIES HAVE TO MAKE GOOD PROFIT, HOW MUCH IS?????
CAN I STOP SHOUTING IT IS HURTING MY THROAT.
In my opinion most of these big companies forget what there core business is and focus on PC bullshyte, this why pricesare high, keep these office pen pushing adminstators in there high paying jobs.

Re: Why are SABROE prices so expensive?

Well, as Johnson Controls refrigeration employee I can't hold back to reply. hahahaha.

The gram compressors and for example HC series are if you call it so expensive.
BUT, how often do you need the expensive parts? GRAM is very old and very reliable so the expensive parts you only need when bad service is done of the compressor had many many running hours.
So in that case it paid off the costs of repair.
But it's always the single moment costs that people look at. When you bought a cheap compressor in the past you would have probably swaped it twice instead of one big repairjob on the GRAM.
And let's face it, GRAM is no longer in production so parts are getting more expensive.
I allways compare costs with cars. In this case cars that are not manufactured anymore you also pay much more for parts.
When you don't do maintenance on your car finally you also pay the big price because something brakes down.

So, as my final questions to massiveboost the poster.

How many running hours are on the Gram.
    Why did it break down?
How is the service history on the compressor?

    Greetings, Bart Nabbe

    Greetings, Bart Nabbe

    agree with you, partially

but, what about high prices for spares where compressors are still in production

    ... or for the new compressors like Frick i.e. SAB 121, 151, 163 to 355 ....

what was wrong with SAB 128, 163, SAB202, SAB 81-85 ... to stop with production and change all to new types ...

I can agree that new designs are better (no piping outside of compressors - with internal connections)
... is that the only reason to stop with production of older types of compressors ...

.. we are speaking that generally prices are too high ... but, maybe I'm not right

some of the smaller compressors are in fact "BOCK" which have been badged. Southern Sales & services in Southampton supplied me valve plates at least 50% cheaper

    Dear friends
i believe that any company gain its profit by after sale service and spare part sales .
so they calculate the best price but you can find similar products that may be suitable but the running hour and additional damage is by your own responsibility. so check first and opt your choice.
