calorex heat pump
We are have a calorex heat pump AWZ7034BHC with 2 copeland ZR12ME-TWD-551 Compressors Both compressors are burned and need replacement. The compressors are not available anymore here in the UAE. Can I replace these compressors with one double the size hermetic compressor.please advise

Re: calorex heat pump
Assuming that this is a single lift circuit (not cascade), replacing 2 parallel compressors, with a single compressor, specified to identical operating conditions should be possible - if everything else is able to support it.
You will definitely need to *carefully* check the equivalent ratings between both compressor units.
Perhaps you could chat to your Copeland supplier & ask for their recommendations on how to proceed.Engineering Specialist - Cuprobraze, Nocolok, CD Technology

Re: calorex heat pump
I assume you are the ' End User' and you should consult with your local A/C Company on replacing with either Maneurop, Carlyle-Danfoss or Toshiba Hermetic Scroll compressors , there are other equivelant types of course. The system is 2 stage for a reason and I would not consider changing to a single stage if just for economic reasons on running costs alone. You would have a lot of work to do with pipe alterations , electrics etc so just get straight equivelants. Make sure you find out the cause of failure first though!!!

Re: calorex heat pump
Anyone who needs to ask should not be trying to re-design a 2 compressor system into a 1 compressor system.

Moideen,
The problem is that the k series do not have a place for an oil equalizing line

Re: calorex heat pump
Gary,
What would you do then. I need suitable compressors which have the options to install an oil equalizing line

Re: calorex heat pump
DesA,
Yes it is a parallel system no staging. The problem is I need compressors which have the option to install an oil equalizing line between the two compressors

Re: calorex heat pump
Yinmorrison,
No it is two compressors running parallel no staging. The problem is that I can not get hold of same capacity compressors with the option to fit an oil equalizing line between the two compressors

Re: calorex heat pump
You ask if two compressors can be replaced with one. The answer is maybe... but that's the wrong question. The right question is, why does this system have two compressors?
I don't know the answer, because I can't see the system from here. I can only "see" your description of it... and you haven't described it.Last edited by Gary; 28-11-2009 at 05:41 AM.

Re: calorex heat pump
The reason is often that the scroll compressors at the time the heat-pump was developed, may not have had adequate capacity to each cope with the full load. Bitzer, Copeland & others supply parallel sets of matched-performance compressors. These then effectively 'work as one', when linked in parallel.
