    Preventing evaporator corrosion

    Hi,

I have noticed that many evaporator cores have the bottom fins and a part of the bottom tube corroded due to condensation. Apart from keeping the drainpipe clean and free of garbage that can block the waterflow, what other ways is there to prevent the bottom area corroding or to slow down the process?

Could a thin oil coating be used? What type of oil to use?

    Thanks.

I have seen a spray lacquer that was specially for aluminum evaporators and condensors but I can't remember the name of it.

    Z2TT.
Kirby/ Heatcraft or what ever they call them selves this week have a spray can coil protector, Blue coat or something similar.
The real problem is that coil manufactures started using imported aluminium coil fin, from north of Oz and NZ, which happened to be recycled junk aluminium. Cheap as chips, quality zero.

Poor electrical grounding or missing/not connected earthing wiring inside the unit could also accelerate corrosion.

something may be in the air that is corrosive to the coil.

Have common cleaning liquids been used or bleach- anti grease ones with caustic soda or chloride? They will eat the aluminium.
