Question (semi) Hermetic vs Open drive compressors

    Hi,

I am looking for empirical evidence regarding mechanical (shaft) seal failures compared to motor burnouts. my experience is that over the past 15years I have seen 1 burnout and changed hundereds of shaft seals, but I need proof from an industry study of some sort. Can anyone suggest where I could go to get such proof.

My client wants this before he purchases hermetic for the first time.

    Thanks for any help.

Re: (semi) Hermetic vs Open drive compressors

I don't believe any one went to the trouble of making such a study.

You should make a table with the "pro's" and "con's" for each type of compressor.

Semi hermetic is cheaper in the long run, if the unit is properly built.

Please note that semi hermetic compressor needs adequate cooling for the motor [the same goes for hermetic]
