i would not worry just yet but it looks like there all up for the chop in the not to distant future drop ins are a similar catagory. i can see it going the way of amoina even in a/c with more use of secondary refrigerants.were all going to polish up on our plumbing.

carbon trading emissions etc will see current refrigerants prices go through the roof.the 22 drop ins have zero odp and little gwp, again i feel like someone else is going to be pulling the strings.seems to me we will be retrofitting back to this rubbish again.

i agree no nick name, but the cost price is liable to be around $70.00 a kg if not more.at the minimum a 200kg system will be in excess of $20,000.00
whats happening in other countries regarding gwp and emissions?

Here in Europe at wholesale 1Kg of R404a is around 8 Euro/Kg or 18 AUD/Kg. You should try and ask for quotations from other suppliers, methinks.

That is entirely your opinion. He just asked when it will be phased out.

Within some weeks in Copenhagen, they will determine the level for additional taxes, not longer based on ODP but on GWP. It will be 1800 or 2000. If they choose for 2000,then R410a will just fall out this new regulations and will not be taxed.
R134a will then become a very important gas again.
    Bitzer already choose for R134a

It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

Quote by Andrew Gaved of RAC mag Dec issue on new Waitrose Store in Altrincham ' While it is at it, it ( Waitrose ) has used a chilled water circuit to integrate the refrigeration and the hvac to make energy savings which will make the new system cost neutral. The system design means that it is not only low maintenence, but it can be installed by its m&e contractors, rather than specialist refrigeration specialists.' This is a store they have fitted out using hydrocarbon technology. Read the full article when you get the mag , makes interesting reading especially when you see adverts for Solkane 22M.

And its all because Dupont lost the massive income in 1993 when the patent for R-12 finished........

And I just bought today half a ton of R-22 at ridiculous price...............

Apart from R-134a [which is dangerous for the nerves system] I don't like the new refrigerants.

Hopefully everyone will be keeping a weiry eye on the Copenhagen Conference next month. With some luck the whole thing will be scuttled before the politicians start taxing the world to death.
Listened to an interesting theory on the "BBC " about high altitude injection of sea water to the atmosphere that would cool and reduce the warming of our planet, requires around 750 cubic metres per annum, super misted particles. Less than the cost of all these stupid conferences.

Re: when is R404a to be fazed out

    gday peter
im pretty sure bitzer went for the 134 way because that 1234 stuff is a direct replacement requiring no modifications to the system.
i cant see how much alternatives are going to work as the government already sees the dollar sign especially with gst component attached to it.
