    Massive Samsung Recall

    Massive Samsung fridge recall
In the biggest-ever recall involving home appliances in Korea, Samsung Electronics plans to repair more than 400,000 refrigerators here and in Europe. The move comes in the wake of a series of alleged explosions.
The Korean home appliance and consumer electronics firm yesterday announced a plan to provide repair services for 210,000 refrigerators sold in Korea, citing defects in their defrost systems.
"We will also recall a similar number of refrigerators in Europe," a Samsung spokesperson told The Korea Herald.
He said the company's European units plan to officially announce their recall plans today.
Samsung's massive recall came after news reports that a Samsung refrigerator exploded in a home in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, on Oct. 10.
A U.K. newspaper also reported in May that a fridge freezer blasted "like an earthquake" in a home in West Bromwich.

"The doors were ripped in half. The front door has a gaping hole in it and all the windows were blown open by the force," Carline Preece was quoted as saying by the newspaper Express & Star.
A family of six was upstairs at the time of the blast and no one was harmed, the report said.
Another Samsung spokesperson said the cause of the incident in the United Kingdom, which happened just four days after the product had been repaired, has not been identified.
Europe is one of Samsung's biggest markets for refrigerators.
"(The explosion) could happen very rarely," he said.
Samsung will recall some models of SRT, SRS and SRN series, which were manufactured between March 2005 and June 2006. As a precautionary measure, Samsung will also include refrigerators with a similar defrost system that were not made during the period.
Customers of Samsung refrigerators in Korea can visit the website at www.3366.co.kr or contact a helpline on 1588-3355 to check if their appliance is part of this program.
Under the service, Samsung officials will visit and install a safety device to prevent overheating on affected refrigerators, Samsung said.
Samsung's home-visit and repair program will be available until Jan. 31, Samsung said.

    Re: Massive Samsung Recall

Korea manufactures are well known for doing anything which they think they might get away with.
The heath & safety of endusers is not as important as profit.
They will only recall products for a rework after very very serious design problems.

Because profit is the prime driver they tend not to learn from past problems & so this type of thing happens from time to time.
