    Carlyle 06NW (Carrier 30HXC chiller)

Would anyone happen to know the clearances and thrust setting etc for this compressor ??

    Thanks

    Hello Iceman,

as far as I know Carlyle/Carrier do not share any technical documentation about this compressor except partlists. I've overhauled a few of these high speed screws and they are still in operation, usually they are damaged beyond repair when they start to make some strange noise. Axial clearances are similar to small Bitzer screws but it has very special bearings. If you have more questions let me know.

All I am trying to do is find a way to set and check thrust and rotor clearances, which I thought were very tight (12 micons or so)

    Thanks

The Timken bearings carry the axial load only one way, just like the small Bitzers. I've measured the axial clearances with the rotors hanging in their axial bearing, instead of the locking bolt use a threaded rod with nut and use the thread to pull and push the rotors, a small dial gauge will do the job.
Be aware that you work very clean, because this compressor has a lot of very small diameter orifices you don't want to get clogged.

Any predictions on lifespan of the 06NW125 compressor on the 30HXC units? I had one fail at 28,000 hours with 11,000 starts.

They aren't the greatest compressors and the motors are a bit of a weak point. Try reducing the number of starts/hours
