What is dye and What is purpose of using dye in system?

Used for finding leaks on system. Not my favourite but some people use it.
It mixes with the oil and goes around the system.
If refrigerant leak out the dye leaves a stain, which you normally need a UV light and glasses to see.Tony

not my favourite either, but it is useful on some systems with long pipe runs etc, annual checks can be speeded up,although totally useless in good light levels, ie outside!! i've been let down badly enough by ropey electronic detectors to keep it as an option
