Before we start retrofitting.(converting a system from R12 into R134a) we must recover R12 in a disposal cylinder.then drain the mineral oil, add amount of polyeaster oil equal to the drained amount of oil.change all compressor's and system seals. Ask the manufacturer for ideal parts. Recharge the system with R134a and check system super heat . You may need to adjust the super heat setting or change the txv.leave the system run almost for 24 hours. Take an oil symbole and check it with reflectometer if the percentage of the mineral oil is less than 5% drain the oil once if its higher drain the oil and recheck .

Why R-134A? Do you not have a direct drop in refrigerant available. We have a drop in R414b.
No need to change oil, expansion valve etc.
Just charge with 80% of full charge. Pressure very close.

I would add that POE oil is hygroscopic. If all of the mosture isn't removed, the expansion devise may freese. Tripple evacuation with nitrogen flush is best in cold weather.
