    Green Compressor Oil?

As the title suggests working on a small 2 Kw water sourced heat pump.

The process stub has been rubbing on the compressor capacitor cable and had worn through the cable shroud causing it to arc on the process stub and burn a pin hole in it.

Result no refrigerant and a locked rotor on the compressor.

After removing the compressor and reverse valve I noticed mint green oil coming from the pipework!!

This is the first time anyone has worked on the system, garuntee labels stopping you taking the compressor panel proved that.

Can anyone through any ideas in why the oil is green?

Maybe one of these guys serviced the unit before you did?

    Re: Green Compressor Oil?

I've seen greenish looking oil come from an ultra low when the suction line had snapped. It pulled in moisture and ran my suspicion was that the pentane (oil additive) turned the oil green when the oil became acidic.

I have seen this on a R407c system that developed a leak. As suggested could be a reaction to moisture and the oil.
