    centrifugal chiller calculations

    Hi! I am a software developer.
    I have a task to calculate Flow Rate, Velocity of flow, Temperature, Pressure Loss of evaporator and condenser in centrifugal chiller.
    I have Entering Temp., Leaving fluid temp, Fouling Factor, number of passes.
    Please, can you give me some formulas to calculate this values or some helpful links.

    Re: centrifugal chiller calculations

    You need some instruments such as: flow meters, pressure transducers, and RTD's or thermocouples for this.

    What velocity are you interested in? The tubes of the chiller & condenser or the pipes providing water to these two heat exchangers?

    Fouling factor will not provide any useful information.
    If all else fails, ask for help.

    Hi Bsna
    You need to provide more data like fluid type and one flow parameter, there are many formulas with variables area, density, velocity, height, pressure, power. OEM's would be a good source to provide this type of data and formulae.

    Re: centrifugal chiller calculations

    u can use the general formula for Heat exchangers

    Q=mCpdT

    Q=pV Cp dT ,simplified for water as

    Q=500 V dT

    Q= BTU/hr
    p= Density of Fluid
    v= Volumetric Flow in GPM
    dt=Temperature difference in F,(Tenetering -Tleaving)

    And Veleocity
    V=A*v

    V= Volumetric Flow in M3/s
    A= Area of coil section in M2
    v= Velocity in m/s.

    Pressure drop dp across each coil,

    V=k root of dP
    or
    V & dp

    V= Volumetric flow rate in GPM
    k= Constant
    dp in Psi
