Smile how to size the flash chamber in a multistage compression system

Dear friends, now i want to built a multistage compression refrigeration system. But i haven't come across flash chamber before. Would you please share me some guideline or handbook about how to size the flash chamber? something like volume an inner structure.

    Thanks a lot.

Re: how to size the flash chamber in a multistage compression system

Flash tanks in refrigeration systems are essentially the same thing as flash tanks in steam systems. Try to find some of the information with Google. I think Sarco has some literature on this.

Flash tanks are similar to accumulators. You are trying to remove any entrained liquid droplets from the vapor flowing out. The volume of vapor formed from the expansion process (from higher pressure to the flash tank pressure) is what we call flash gas.

The volume of flash gas is dependent on the liquid mass flow into the flash tank and the pressure reduction that occurs.
If all else fails, ask for help.

Thanks a lot, Iceman. You are always so kind

Dear friend, i found the flash chamber is usually used in steam system. i am wondering whether that kind of flash chamber can be also implemented in my refrigerant system?
if not, have you ever been come across any flash chamber in multi-stage refrigeration system?
    Thanks a lot

A flash tank is the same thing as a flash economizer. The liquid flashes off from a higher pressure to a lower pressure. During the expansion process the liquid that flashes off cools the remaining liquid.

US iceman is right, flash tank, flash economizer same thing. just depending on the temperature you want to run.
