Stench !!
Hi,
We've just got our airco, brandnew.
It's been on for about 2 days now.
Problem is that when I put it on, it's like a sewer running through my house !
It really stinks...
What can I do about that because it's not very nice to be in such a smell all day long !
Hope somebody can help us...
Regards,
Joke

Re: Stench !!
What is the humidity in the house?
Do you have carpets right through the house?

Re: Stench !!
Hi all, thank for the many replies...
I'll have my husband to check it all out. We live in a rented appartement, first tenants though... but we haven't put in the airco ourselves so I dont know how it's installed.
It's a Daikin Split System BRC1C61 (anyway that's what it says on the remote controller)
And we do live in Ibiza, when it gets really hot the drains in the bathrooms stink a little bit too. But that's just a little bit and there's not airco unit inthere so that smell shouldn't be able to get into the other units, should it ?
Anyway, thanks again...

Re: Stench !!
if the air con is tied to the drains then any smell from the drain will come up.

Re: Stench !!
Might not fan cage (ventilator) be scratching the case in the inside unit?

Re: Stench !!
have they connected the drain to a sewer pipe with out trapping it? try pouring water into the driptray, if smell goes for a while and then returns it probably just needs a trap.

Re: Stench !!
I agree with Al, the condensate water trap is probably dry or not deap enough if a negative pressure in fan coil unit, induced draught

Re: Stench !!
Have you trapped the drain??
If you have connected the drain to the main drains with no trap your fan could be pulling bad smells up from the drains.

Re: Stench !!
If a new apartment , sounds like the plumber was cutting cost and not fitting "s " bends and "P "traps. Your bathroom should not smell at all, let alone the A/C.
PS , very unhealthy to live in that sort of enviroment, all sorts of airbourne nasties, hope you have full medical insurance cover.
