    Apprenticeship interview soon!

    Hi all,

Since my last post, I have now landed myself an apprenticeship interview with a large commercial refridgeration company here in the South East. Very thrilled

Now I am preparing myself and would like some suggestions from you employers, who have experience of hiring new apprentices.

    • Could you tell me what kind of questions you like to ask?
    • What personality and behavours you look for?
    • Could you suggest some specific wording I could you use when I meet my interviewers questions?
Your advice would be most helpfull, as I am sparking a whole new chapter in my career. I have worked in Health and Fitness and recently in the past two years I have worked in the finance world.

Engineering sector is a new bold step, yet I have a training & placement organisation backing me up (Having passed their technical entry exam and colour blindness tests).

Look forward to your advice and potentially maybe working sibe by side you one day!

    Thanks

    Best regards

    Nicko

    Re: Apprenticeship interview soon!

    Nicko,

First of all, you are going for an apprenticeship so don't worry too much on specific questions.
Be engaged and polite, also be fully awake (have a good, long, nights sleep the night before).
Look tidy and well presented, if you go in jeans and a T-shirt make sure they are clean and in good condition.
Be there in good time, with that I mean be in the area an hour before your appointment and walk through the doors 5 minutes before your appointment.

Don't be afraid to talk about your hobbies with a passion but let the interviewer lead the conversation.

Try and find out what the company is all about, have they got a website? They will ask you if you got any questions, so have at least one or two prepared.

The more awake and engaged you appear the more likely you are to get the job.

Lastly, and this might be the hardest part, an engineer is like an actor on a stage so try to act and appear confident. If you look shy and without self-esteem you are unlikely to make a good engineer and are therefore less likely to get a job as an apprentice.

    Viking,

Thanks so much for taking your time to share your advice. As for appearance, I certainly will go with a tie and proper trousers. As for punctuality, I am usually always very good with being early and giving myself well enough time in advance.

Confidence will be backed by my knowledge of the company. Yes they do have a website and I certainly will do my research.

Thanks again Viking, I will let you know the outcome.

    With kind regards
    Nicko

Joking apart if you spell it wrong on an aplication form they may show you he door. There nothing worse to a fridge man than refridgeration.

    But to answer your question

Find out about the company, find out who their main contracts are with and how many depots they have.
Find out the name of the main bloke, MD, owner, director or whoever.

Have some questions of your own.
ask what they expect of you and what they will do to suport you. Be confident and be yourself.
DO NOT exagerate the truth and do not lie. If you do not know the answer to a question say so and be honest.

Well done and all the best

    Re: Apprenticeship interview soon!

    Update...

Interview went reasonably well. Apparently I am so far the more eligible out of 3 of us interviewed so far. 2 more to go. He described the company very well and it almost felt like he was trying to sell the company to me! I asked a few questions (when I could get the chance to butt in!) and had some really good answers.

    Fingers crossed.
