    Compressor Icing Up

    Hi all

I was called to a unit not cooliong correctly today its a package on r22, now the evap is iced up right from the tev all the way back to the compressor and the compressor is iced up too,

The filter was recently replaced and still clean so my first thoughts were low on gas, but with the compressor icing up now Im thinking maybe the tev is flooding the evap?

Thanks in advance for any advice

Sounds like an airflow problem to me.

There is a lot more to it. Check for blocked returns, dirty blower wheel, dirty coil, etc.

With the coil defrosted, what are the evap air in/out temps (measured close to the coil)?

Compressor is icing because evaporator is iced and not picking up heat.
Do not attempt to fiddle with charge or TEV until you defrost evaporator and undoubtedly establish that its air flow is as it should be.
    And finally, follow Gary's guidance.

Did you check the superheat? You would know if you were getting liquid floodback to your compressor then.

    Re: Compressor Icing Up

Right, I sripped it down and the evapourater looked a little dirty so I gave that a good clean with a cleaner and I checked the blower wheel, this had corroded quite bad and was causing a blockage between fins, (Thanks Gary) So I gave it a good scraping and blew it out with ofn.

Seems to be running ok now and the air flow seems to have doubled!

Must not of been hardly any air flow therefore evap not picking any heat up so no superheat back to the compressor.

    Cheers Guys
