New Training Centre

I am glad to announce that we are just about to open a new Training Centre dedicated to Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.

Its located just off the M18 Junction 3.

We are busy setting up all of the classrooms and workshops.

Already an approved City & Guilds and CITB Centre, we are able to offer: C&G 2078, CITB Safe Handling of Refrigerants and Pipework and Brazing, Basic Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, as well as electrical courses.

We are having an Open Day on 2nd September 2004 anytime between 10am and 4pm. Anyone who would like to come along send me a message and I'll give you the details.

Can you supply me a few more details.
I am looking at moving over to refrigeration/air con from the vending industry, with a goal of starting up my own business. The courses you have mentioned sound like the right step for me. I live down in Cambridgeshire (no training around here) but due to present work commitments will not be available in the immediate future.
If you can supply me with prices/course durations etc I would be most appeciative.

I have seen in local news papers, advertisements on behalf of HM government for recruiting professional personal including refrigeration techs.

What would be the procedure fore such a person to obtain all the necessary documents and licences to start work?

Can't really help you, but all I can say is that there is 'soon' going to be a mandatory minimum qualification for engineers to work on refrigeration and air conditioning systems .

This is likely to be that engineers should have either C & G 2078 or CITB Safe Handling of Refrigerants.

when i worked at macwhirters, tony was on the UK g.ment advisory panel regarding all this stuff

in his opinion (to me at least) was not 'soon' in any sense of the word

All these training centres offer the same things(well at least it seems to be the same) safe handling, basic refrigeration, 5 day courses, essential electrics, pipework and brazing. I'm not moaning, but doesn't anyone offer more specialised training. I've done loads of courses over the years, but never seen a course on compressor packs, or industrial refrigeration. The nearest to it I've seen has been the Hall training centre. I have safe handling of both fluorocarbons and ammonia, C&G level 3, essential electrics, pipework and brazing etc. My brain needs the stimulation of something different.
Does anyone do these courses ?

I think the problem is James that training of that sort is only available 'in house' by the system manufacturers.

They have no interest in training "outsiders" when they can insist on the customer using their services only and keeping the charge rate high.

You probably know the sort of thing...."Do not tear this paper label or your warranty is void" etc. etc..

If a training centre is being set up by a member on the govt advisory board.............

I know exactly what you mean Brian. That sort of thing has always been very hard for all but employees, although I was very lucky to be trained by York on chillers, but now being self employed, it's more difficult to find all but the generic courses, but I don't need these courses. I just wish I could get something a bit different. I did a decent course a while back for larger applications, but the problem was it was in Dallas !!!
£286 airfare plus another £400 accomodation etc etc.
Still no point moaning about it-have to soldier on.

Trane will teach you pretty much most things about their equipment, for about £500 per day for up to 6 trainees, last I heard. Contact Ian Megson, their National Training chap at their H.Q.
