2079! Nearest place is 2 hours away!
Am wanting to get my 2079 in order to get ready for 2011.
Rang C&G to find my nearest center.
Its about 2 hours away, they want 5 days of my time and 850 plus VAT!!!!
Is this the going rate?
Anyone know of anywhere in East Anglia that can do this course?
Or reccomend anyone in London that can do it at a better rate?
Cheers,
Greg

You must be spoilt Greg!
Most of us are used to a 2hr drive to a site!
It certainly is not abnormal.
With regard to the charges they sound about the going rate.
Hey, look on the bright side. I have heard that we all have to renew it in 5 yrs time?
By then most of the trainers will of learnt how to streamline the courses!

Try flying to belfast, two days for 350, try www.serc.ac.uk.
excellent instructors and no ****e, think yourself lucky that you have test centres in your OWN country, ours can't even decide who will run the test!!

Re: 2079! Nearest place is 2 hours away!
Is it necessary to do a 5 day course, are you a an engineer?
I did 1 day extra theory then the next day the Global On Line Exam and the practical tests and only paid £350 + VAT with these guys.
http://www.prtc.co.uk
These were 1 1/2 hours from me but only tied me up for 2 days, no way as a one man band could I spare 5 days.
A mate of mine went for the 3 day course with extra practical training, extra theory then the final exam & practical test.

Thanks for all the replies guys!
Grizzly - I drive from Cambridge to the center of London most days for work. Its not that i dont like traveling. But traveling to earn and traveiling to spend 800quid learning something i have been doing for the last 4 years is very different! LOL
Eggs - Thanks to an unidentified rear end rattle and what is looking like a dieing torque converter your probably right! But the trusty transit would take you on!
Al - does tha course cover enough to get full cirtification? Reason i ask is 850+VAT + 5 days loss of earnings + 5 days of travel costs means it would probably end up cheaper!
Andy - Was told that because i only have the CITB safe handeling that i need to do the full course? I am also a 1 man band (with the occasional slave in the form of the missuses brother) so 5 days out will be a kick in the balls, even more so if i get a brakedown on one of the nights between!
Thanks for your help guys!

Re: 2079! Nearest place is 2 hours away!
If you have a current 2078 why not wait until the winter when work may quiten down a bit, my 2078 CITB expired the week before I did my 2079 so I had to do it.

Re: 2079! Nearest place is 2 hours away!
Dont have current 2078, but do have the CITB safe handeling.
Due to the nature of the systems im looking after the only quiet time is spring and autum, and by quiet i mean i get 2 days off a week. - but this autumn im loaded with big services so its not going to be practical and before you know it im gona run out of time.
For this reason i want to nail this now and get it done, also thinking of doing the whole 2 year C&G course thing, as im a big fan of building a nice portfilo of quallifications!

CLK
i'm the same as yourself, i work as a one man band, that's what attracted me to this course, it is full certification for the 2079, they don't bother doing the partial certs for less than 6Kg or whatever it is.
Centre is very accessable from the airport.

Re: 2079! Nearest place is 2 hours away!
The CITB is worth the same as the 2078. Some say even more because it needs redoing on a regular basis.
If you have the CITB and it is in date then you are alright upto 2011, so no need to rush.
The thing is that there are going to be thousands of people wanting the 2079 or CITB J11 and as it gets closer to 2011 places may get harder to find or costs may rise. Nature of the beast I'm affraid.
If you are confident you know your stuff you can just do the assessment only or do a shorter training course of 2 or 3 day instead.
Cheers taz.
