    capacitors

    Evening all,

I have a duff 5 microfarad fan run capacitor which has 370v stamped on it. Can I replace it with a 450v rated capacitor?

I can't remember from college what the voltage difference is, 2 diferent values depending on the capacitors use or something or other

yes, as long as MFD is the same! It will hold the same amount of energy as long as the same amount of voltage is applied but because it has a higher voltage rating it can hold more energy if you were to apply a higher voltage

yes, i agree with wambat, just don't replace it with capacitor which has lower voltage rating than the original capacitor
