Sulfur Dioxide Evaporator - Replacement suggestions?

One my my sideline hobbies is antique refrigeration. For the most part these old refrigerators are pretty reliable.

However one of my monitor tops sprung a leak in the cast iron evaporator unit. The refrigerant was SO2 and that's nasty stuff to purge out.

I'm looking for options to get this unit going again. The evaporator is pretty bad so I'm probably going to have to replace it.

Any suggestions on what I can replace it with?

Are there any online sources for DIY refrigerator component? I'm thinking an evaporator from a dorm fridge might work.

Any suggestion on what refrigerant to use in place of SO2?? R-12??
