    coupling info

    Hi Guys,

I was working on a screw compressor today and ran into this style coupling. Does anyone have any info or know the model of it. I am looking for torque specs or an installation manual. I contacted tb woods but have not heard back yet

    Thanks

Yes it is a stal, I can't remember the model number. Is this style fairly common on a stal? The company I work for just recently started working on stal and sabroe.

    Thanks

This isn't the correct terminology but here we call it a Woods coupling, Woods is the manufacturer of the coupling. http://www.tbwoods.com/

    Re: coupling info

Thanks for the info and help guys. I did not see the exact set up on the woods web site.

Here is tb woods reply to my email.

The photo shows our Sure-Slex flange with a "ringfeder" type bushing.
Sure-Flex is NOT design for this type of bushing.
This type flange is design to except bore and key - note the key seat.

    Oh boy now what?

    duke717 ,
I think you need a new coupling assy .
The original i think would have been a gear or membrane assy .
Ask supplier to size one with hub big enough for ringfeeder type taperlock .
They will ask for shaft sizes , speed , motor kilowatts and distance between shaft ends .
Get a new ringfeeder and they will also give correct torque setting .
Without a keyway there is not much of an alternative .
If you can get a price / availability out of jci good luck .

    He Duke,

if possible find out the exact type of stal compressor or unit, maybe I can find out what type of coupling has been used in the past.

    Re: coupling info

Screwdoctor, the compressor is a stal 67 (m & m package model 67). Any infor on what is typically used would be great.
    Thanks for the help guys.
I had to move the motor back to remove the hytrel sleeve and then do an alignment. Thats a pain just to replace the sleeve.

    Re: coupling info

You may be able to contact M&M Refrigeration direct, if you give the make, model and serial number they should be able to tell you, or if you have the job number they might be able to find the information that way. I have their contact information if you need it.

    Re: coupling info

    Ok Duke,

when I look at the site of M&M refrigeration the S67 unit has got a STAL/SABROE S81 compressor on it. The picture you have attached shows a keyless clamping type coupling inside the Woods flange, on the SAB81 units from Denmark the same internal clamping system is normally used in combination with a flexible (2 disc pack and spacer) Thomas Rex coupling which is standard on SABROE skids. These couplings are usually no problem working with. Thomas Rex has a very good internet site where all different types of couplings are shown. The original STAL S81 skids have gear couplings also with clamping system on the compressor shaft.

    Hope this helps a little
