    Excellent Write off LOL

    Heya everyone!

Attended customer's house today as a outdoor Pool Heat Pump (Calorex) wasn't heating.
First visual inspection was to find the EVP coil covered in leaves and muck, fault lamp on....possibly lost charge.

Opened unit up to find Suction accumulator had been cut out...strange. Cobwebs everywhere, 2 inches of muck in the drip tray, filthy.
Attached gauges to system, no pressure, pumped the system up to about 1 bar and heard glugging noise.

I knew excactly what this was (spend alot of time with these units) so i pierced the lowest refrig pipe on the system, i had forgotten to vent the Nitogen, when i removed the piercing tool i got covered in pool water from within the system :-( NOT HAPPY.

    Ooooopppss My mistake
Had a look over the system for any other picture opportunities and found that the compressor capacitor blown to ****.

    Obviously:

    Pool water condenser had failed.
Pool water made its way into the refrigeration system.
    Compressor blown
    Unit written off.

Will post some pictures up later.....good times.

    Thanks for the interesting post.
Can you tell me as I am completely ignorant as to what these units comprise of.
What type of condenser is used?
Is it Shell and Tube or a Plate Heat Exchanger?
