    Iced Sightglass



    I'm sure this is pretty common,but How do you keep frost off the sight glass ? Thanks

    That all depends, there's not much info to go on. Is it a subcooled liquid line or not.
    If not it might just be a case of a blocked drier. More info please......

    If the sight glass is located after a pump down SV, it will get iced every time the system goes into pomp down.

    If it is located after the filter, before the SV, it will get iced when the filter is partially blocked and liquid refrigerant is boiling in it.

    Its on the evap showing the liquid level.

    I guess your refering to a flooded system ? We use a liquid eye which is a simple perspex (clear plastic) plug which is fitted into the sight glass flange and sticks out approx 40 / 50 mm the sight glass still frosts but the plastic don`t so much so you can still see the liquid level

    As Quality said we use what is called a frost shield. A small plastic cylinder that fits into sight glass.

    normally , in this case we use non-frosting type of sight glass fitted clear acryl plug.
