Wet Bulb Measurements
have a couple of questions for all of you smart technicians! I appreciate any information you can provide.
How many technicians are measuring Wet Bulb temperatures? (out of 100 techs, how many measure wet bulb?)
Where do technicians take these measurements? Inside the building? At the return Grille? In the return duct work? in the return plenum?
What do you use to measure the wet bulb temperature?
What do you use the wet bulb measurements for?

Re: Wet Bulb Measurements
Is this a survey for someone or are you trying to find out how to do it ?

Re: Wet Bulb Measurements
I work at Fieldpiece so I am very familiar with how to do this.
I meant this as a survey to see what actual HVAC technicians are doing so I can better understand how to help them to do their job easier and faster!

Re: Wet Bulb Measurements
i tried your wet bulb thermocople with the wick, poor results, I was dissapointed in it and I vote it a POS. Had better results with wet toilet paper on a standard thermocouple then the wick deal you guys sell.
I have had good results with accurate temperature probes with a snug fitting wick.
i like your pipe clamp one though for superheat and subcooling
i do not have much faith in the digital probes that are based on RH and spit out a wet bulb, pretty finicky when the device is in the budget range of the average techLast edited by Abby Normal; 25-04-2009 at 02:33 AM.

Re: Wet Bulb Measurements
I appreciate the feedback. The wet bulb T-couples work best when there is air passing across them. I haven't heard this complaint before so I will check into this.
Glad you like the pipe clamp. We have a few instruments that make superheat and subcooling a cynch as well.
If you ever have any other questions or comments, just let me know!

Re: Wet Bulb Measurements
they read high, inserted into a duct, I do not see how the wick can sufficiently cool the thermocouple
before I wet the wick, I checked it against another thermocouple, it read pretty close to what the dry wick was reading.
I tried a wet bulb reading in a duct with the wet bulb probe, tried it against a short ridge probe with a wet sock, several degrees difference.
put wet toilet paper on the other thermocouple, pretty close to what the shortridge was saying.
I say the wet bulb thermocouple I ended up with reads a good three degrees high, and I think it is because the wick does not cool the thermocouple adequately.
This was straight out of the packageLast edited by Abby Normal; 02-05-2009 at 03:03 AM.
