    -80 freezer recommendations

    Guys

Looking for recommendations for a -80 cabinet, smaller the better. Specifically units you've sold or serviced and would recommend!! ( I can use google, looking for personal recommendations please)

Location is not a major issue either though preferably uk/europe.

    Thank you

    alec

denley used to do -80 freezers in all different sizes-based in colchester, never had any problems with them except for the pull down temp took about 6hrs to reach -80 and the comissioning graph showed 2hrs!

ENVIROTRONICS, Company out of the US. They were recently purchased by a geman manufacturer. I once worked for them, they are really reliable, but when you have to work on one the owners were service men and built there equipment accordingly.

    Re: -80 freezer recommendations

Alec, I only went down to -40°C on test chamber, two stage unit with r-502 and r-123 and that was a long time ago. I stick to -20°C now.

Ask in hospitals, they all have ultra low temp freezers in their labs, they should have the experience.

    Re: -80 freezer recommendations

I have mainly come across new brunswick scientiffic -80's although have worked on a few revcos aswell. The hospital where we look after there freezers generally stick with the new brunswick scientifics as they have a longer lifespan. Not to sure on costs but heres a link to the manufacturers website.

    Re: -80 freezer recommendations

Sanyo biomedical has many -80 freezers. They range from Uprights at the 23 cuft range and smaller to chest freezers.
The smallest is the MDFC8V1. My experience with those is virtually no problems at all. I would recomend going to www.sanyo.com and looking up your area of the world. This will show what they sell in that market. If your in the us (as I am) us.sanyo.com/biomedical is what your looking for. If there is anything you want to know Message me...

    Re: -80 freezer recommendations

The lads at AHT do a -80c chest freezer in their special products range, I have worked on the -35, -55 & these over the years and they are very good.

You need to ask for their sales manager when you call them, as they dont circulate the special products list to everyone, as they only want to sell them to people who know how to look after them.

    their number is 01280 826600

I think the -80 is the GLK

    Hope this helps.

    Re: -80 freezer recommendations

I have been working on the Revco brand made by Thermo Scientific thats mostly what we have. I have found them to be temprmental, not reliable and hard to work on, all the refrigeration componets are in the bottom of the unit. If you have to work on them you have to get them up on a table or lay on the floor. There has to be better units out there. We do have a few Sanyos at the research center I work at but I havent had to work on themhing to that there may be somet.

    Re: -80 freezer recommendations

they are all terible. the bottom line is the compression ratios they are forcing on these compressors is just outright abuse. with a head of 175(at best) and a suction of 5psi(again at best) they are designed to eat compressors. a manufacturer told me avaerage life of these, or expected i should say is 5 years. they all use the same compressor literally, used to be bristol 3/4hp but they found it cheaper to use copeland 1hps. now they are switching again to embraco. g i wonder why? all you can do is hope the guy who runs your pipe isnt having a bad day, and the same for the over engineered, redundant, designed to fail, control systems. Planned obsolecense is great for the economy i suppose.

    Re: -80 freezer recommendations

New bruinswicks alright. whats the french guys name in service who yells at me? Wasn't his fault, I had an apprentice put a compressor with the wrong voltage in one of your warranty jobs. They are definitely on top of customer service. Also they haven't been absorbed by the totalitarian despot thermo. I always root for the underdog. I still don't like the idea of the interstage being in a little box on the bottom. it seems so mysterious (whats going on in there?j/k)
