    Do I need a post-evaporator heat exchanger?

I'm designing an R404a refrigeration system that has the evaporator approximately 18" below the compressor. In the past, I've always used a heat exchanger after the evaporator to ensure that no liquid enters the compressor. However, with the evaporator so far below the compressor, is there really a need for the heat exchanger? I would think that liquid entering would be very unlikely given these conditions.

I don't see any significant advantage by installing heat exchanger but I would do more then usual to control oil return and liquid migration to the evaporator
