Split better over chiller
Got into work tonight and received following email;
Plant room water leak - affecting cooling system
Please note that due to a leak in the chilled water circuit, the cooling system has been shut down until Friday.
We have been reliably informed that this issue will be fully resolved by first thing Friday morning.
Please report any heating / cooling issues as normal
Thank you for your cooperation

Its about 30C in the office when I have got in as its a modern building with lots of desktop computers producing 350watts heat each. There are desk fans and a pathetic water filled swamp cooler blowing!
The main Lennox chiller is down but the benefit we have in the department I work in is that we have also have a separate MHI Ducted split. I came in and switched that on straight away as it was turned off, everyone thought the panel on the wall was for the main cooling system and didnt think it should be switched on, so after much debate arguing the fact that its a separate system we are now starting to feel some cool air. However this room has 5 fan coils off the chiller which are out of operation until Friday, so we only have the ducted split which is the same capacity as one of the fan coils.
Obviously when a chiller goes down the who bulding is affected! God help them tmrw when they come in tmrw and the office is full!

"Split better over chiller"
Option 1 - Chiller
Come Friday, they follow the water puddle and fix the leak, refill with water, vent, run pumps and restart chiller.
Option 2 - VRV/VRF
Come Friday the men are still looking for the leak, later they find it and fix it. Several hours pass whilst a pressure test is performed, system is then evacuated by which time it is dark.
Company will not pay overtime so work stops until Monday.
Monday comes and vacuum process is repeated as there was a rise and change in temperatures.
Monday afternoon the system is recharged, the system is rebooted and restarted.
Warning: By Friday morning be prepared to fight off your fellow office workers as the word goes around that you have 'cooling'.
Hope it gets fixed soon for youBrian - Newton Abbot, Devon, UK
