    Hi Cold Stuff.
    I can't say for U.S of A. but in the U.K.
the quality after the relief valve is irrelevant as long as the bore is not reduced from the Valve output size.

In NZ we use screwed galvanized seemed pipe, and the M&M sets I seen overseas, they are similar. But still check your local standards authourity to clarify

    Re: Relief valve piping

ASHRAE and thus US aligned standards require discharge piping from safeties to be of same material as "that required for the refrigerant". ASHRAE -15, 2007, 9.1.5.

The sizing of common discharge pipes has gotten much more involved: per 9.7.8.5, and Appendix H, same source. Not uncommon for the Machine Room header pipe to be 5" and larger for a large scale system.

The BSR has very much the same content though I cannot give you the section references etc.
